Where did the royal baby’s name come from?

“George” is a popular name among British monarchs. Most male monarchs have been named either George or William. The last 9 male monarchs, in order from most recent (Queen Elizabeth’s dad) to the least recent, have been named George, Edward, George, Edward, William, George, George, George and George. The most recent George to have ruled Great Britain, the Queen’s dad, reigned until as recently as 1952.

In royal families, maintaining the same name is important in order to signify the continuity of the Windsor family line (the ruling family dynasty).

“Louis” is one of Prince William’s many middle names, and is probably a tribute to Prince Charles’ good friend, Lord Louis Mountbatten, who was assassinated by the IRA.

“Alexander” is thought to be one of Kate’s favorite boy names.

On Twitter, people commented on the royal baby’s name, pointing out it’s similarity to the Seinfeld cast’s lineup: GEORGE Costanza, Jason ALEXANDER, and Julia LOUIS-Dreyfus.
